Rape culture is pervasive on college campuses. At Yale University, members of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity chanted, “No means yes! Yes means anal!” in front of dorms on campus one night in October 2010. Female students filed a Title IX Title complaint. Shortly after, the Dept. of Education’s Office for Civil Rights opened an investigation to review sexual harassment and sexual assault at Yale University. Investigations are still ongoing.
Title IX, passed under the Education Amendments of 1972, is not about sports. It states, “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”
